Recruitment rules

Detailed rules of recruitment to the Doctoral College of Security Studies at the University of Wrocław's PhD School:

Required documents:

  1. application (with information on the planned subject of the doctoral thesis and the name of the proposed academic supervisor);
  2. personal questionnaire completed in the relevant online recruitment system - IRK or IRC (for foreigners);
  3. copy of the diploma of completion of second-cycle studies or uniform master's studies or other document entitling to apply for admission to the doctoral school (the original will be available for confirmation in order to confirm compliance with the original); in the case of a diploma obtained outside Poland, an apostille or legalization of the document required;
  4. written opinion of a scientific supervisor selected from among independent scientific employees of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Wrocław on the subject of the doctoral thesis project together with the declaration of taking the candidate into scientific care;
  5. preliminary project of doctoral thesis;
  6. certificate or attestation confirming knowledge of English at B2 level or equivalent (FCE, TOEFL-550, IELTS 5.5-6.5, BEC Vantage and other equivalent international certificates); candidates for whom English was the language of instruction at the previous stage of education or is their native language are exempt from the obligation to submit a certificate;
  7. copy of the document confirming the legalization of the stay together with the original for inspection (in the case of foreigners); it is possible to admit the candidate to the entrance examination without a photocopy of the document confirming the legalization of the stay and its delivery only in the event of a positive result of the entrance examination;
  8. documents should be submitted in Polish or English;
  9. confirmation of payment of the recruitment fee.

Recruitment rules:

  1. Candidates will be admitted to the Doctoral College of Security Sciences within a competition, within the limits of places available.
  2. Admission to the Doctoral College of Security Sciences is determined by the result of the competition expressed in points.
  3. The following points are awarded: the doctoral thesis project approved by the proposed academic supervisor, current scientific achievements and activities in the student scientific movement, answers during the oral entrance examination to questions about the doctoral thesis project and the general knowledge of the candidate from a scientific discipline.
  4. With the approval of the admissions committee, the entrance examination can be carried out in the form of video conferencing.
  5. The minimum point threshold required for admission to the Doctoral College of Security Sciences is 60 points.
  6. The following points are awarded for the project of doctoral thesis, scientific achievements and entrance examination:

  • Globalization processes and contemporary conflicts
  • Cultural aspects in contemporary migration processes.

Assessment criteria

 

 

Detailed assessment criteria

 

1) RESEARCH PROJECT EVALUATION CRITERIA:

·      Formulation and justification of the research problem: the correctness of placing the problem in the context of discourse conducted in security sciences, the importance of undertaken issues, the innovation of the proposed research (0-5 points)

·      Conceptualization of the research problem, including embedding in the theory of security science, adopted conceptual apparatus (0-5 points)

·      Literature review: presentation of the state of knowledge and research, adequacy of source selection and their timeliness (0-5 points)

·      Methodology: adequacy of the research methods and techniques used, the way they are implemented in the designed studies (0-5 points)

·      Research plan containing a description of the research tasks and their purpose (assumed effects) along with the work schedule (0-5 points)

·      Project feasibility: assessment of the feasibility of studies and their impact on expanding the boundaries of existing knowledge (0-5 points)

TOTAL FOR RESEARCH PROJECT: 0-30 points

 

2) EXAM:

 

  • two questions about general knowledge in the field of security sciences in accordance with the list of issues given;
  • two questions about the research project presented, covering one of the following issues:

1) methodology of the proposed research,

2) research problem, incl. its justification, timeliness, importance for the development of the discipline, linking specific questions and hypotheses,

3) the topic / area of ​​research, including e.g. the state of theory, literature on the subject, conducted research.

Each question is rated on a scale of 0-10 points.

 

TOTAL FOR EXAMS: 0-40 points

 

3) SCIENTIFIC AND TEACHING ACTIVITY

 

assessment based on the documents presented, including:

  • peer-reviewed scientific publications, with particular reference to publications indexed in the SCOPUS and Web of Science databases
  • participation in national and international scientific conferences
  • participation in research projects
  • activity to popularize science
  • activity in scientific student groups, etc.
  • conducting classes at a higher level
  • other

7.  copy of the document confirming the legalization of the stay together with the original for inspection (in the case of foreigners); it is possible to admit the candidate to the entrance examination without a copy of the document confirming the legalization of the stay and its delivery only in the event of a positive result of the entrance examination;

8.  documents confirming the current scientific and didactic activity, including a list of publications (with copies), scientific conferences (together with certificates of participation) and documents confirming research, didactic, student and popularizing activities.
